| They are not very old, they are certainly not older than the WWII technology of the stock Z32 turbos. The concept of a wheel is 4000 year old. But still works. The Mitsubishi turbos have some of the latest technology. They are just not ball bearings. But their spool time is decent and they are in general tougher than the ball bearing turbos. Greddy/Mitsu turbos can take alot more abuse than their counterparts. Don't believe everything just because it's repeated alot. The TD05 is a good kit if you reinforce the exhaust manifolds. They are known for cracking.
